"Power Struggle"

http://www.popsci.com/node/24984

“Power Struggle” was an article written by Seth Fletcher. This article is about Chevrolet producing a new vehicle that runs on a battery. This battery weighs in at 400 lbs and is 6 feet long. It has 300 individual three volt lithium ion cells that are bundled together. The battery is one of the best technological advances in electrical storage equipment ever engineered. This battery has the power to go 40 miles before it runs out of energy.

  1. This seems like an interesting idea to help us overcome our dependence on foreign energy. However, I see some drawbacks with this alternative. The battery in question seems cubersome with a length of 6 feet and an additional weight of 300lbs to the vehicle means that a more powerful engine is needed and an upgraded suspension. It seems great that it can take you 40 miles, but that is a trip to Manhattan and back to Brooklyn. I think we need something that can be more long lasting and which takes compact design into consideration. What about cost? Is it cost effective? The number of times that it will need to be repowered adds costs and time.
